Visio diagrams often contain the most accurate version of a system, but presenting a dense canvas during a review forces the audience to decide where to look. A directed video controls that sequence without replacing the source.
Preserve shapes and connectors
Import the .vsdx file rather than a PNG export. Editable shapes preserve service labels, connector direction and grouping. After import, verify page selection, fonts and any custom stencils before adding motion.
Turn pages into a shot list
Treat each architectural concern as a shot: context, ingress, processing, storage, observability, resilience and security. Frame one concern at a time and use animated paths only where direction or timing matters.
Narrate decisions, not boxes
The useful explanation is why a component exists, what constraint it satisfies and what failure it contains. Keep the visual label short and put the reasoning in narration and captions.
Review and publish
Preview at the same size your audience will use. Check that service names remain legible, captions do not cover the active path and camera movement settles before a new point begins. Export MP4 for asynchronous review or PowerPoint for a live architecture session.
